DLA Scholarship Interview Two
Final scholarship interview with the Director and select board members for top candidates.
Service Description
This is the second and final interview for selected D-Day Leadership Academy Scholarship applicants. Candidates invited to this stage have already advanced through the initial review process and are now being considered more closely for scholarship selection. This interview is conducted with the Director and may also include members of the Board, depending on availability. The purpose of this conversation is to better understand the applicant behind the written materials. We want to hear how you carry yourself, how you think, how you respond under questions, and what draws you to this opportunity. Academic performance matters, but character matters more. We are looking for young men and women who demonstrate humility, maturity, courage, respect, gratitude, and a genuine desire to grow through challenge. Applicants must also come prepared with their completed report on their assigned soldier. The Director may ask questions about the soldier, what the applicant learned through the research process, and how that soldier’s story may shape the applicant’s understanding of the trip. This portion matters. It helps demonstrate preparation, seriousness, and the applicant’s willingness to engage with the history, sacrifice, and personal responsibility tied to the experience. During the interview, applicants may be asked about their background, interests, leadership experiences, family support, personal goals, reasons for applying, readiness for a program built on discipline, reflection, historical reverence, and personal growth, and their report on the assigned soldier. This is also an opportunity for candidates to speak clearly about why they believe they are a strong fit for the scholarship. Applicants should arrive prepared, punctual, and dressed appropriately. The setting does not require perfection, but it does call for seriousness, honesty, and respect. We are not looking for rehearsed answers. We are looking for substance, sincerity, preparation, and evidence of character. Selection for a final interview does not guarantee an award, but it does indicate that the applicant has stood out in a meaningful way. We consider this stage an important part of the decision-making process, and we are honored to spend time with each finalist. Please be sure to join on time, be in a quiet setting where you can give the interview your full attention, and have your soldier report ready to reference during the conversation. If you have any issues accessing the meeting
